Blackbird Arts Summer Camp

July 18-21

1pm to 4pm

Elk Rapids Day Park/Walk of Art

CURRENTLY FULLY ENROLLED - to add your name to a waiting list, please email Nancy McRay at

In this art camp, youth ages 8-12 years explore the Walk of Art Sculpture Park and learn about the seeds, plants and pods that inhabit northern Michigan. Using observation, investigation and hands-on clay workshops, youth will create an installation of sound-making clay sculptures (closed and open forms) that can be “played” by visitors to the park.

The program runs four consecutive afternoons with the final day being a community participation day for families, friends and visitors to the park. This program allows children to explore the history of sculpture in the park, the role of public art in community building, and learn clay hand building techniques with professional artists.

Students register for all four days of workshops, lasting three hours each day. On the fourth day, families with children of all ages are invited to help in the final parts of the installation.

This final day will run as a three-hour open house; no registration is necessary for the public.

Class size is limited to 12

Fee- $115 per participant

Scholarships for both of these classes are available from Art Rapids. Contact Nancy McRay at for information.
