The arts play a vital role...
The arts animate our community, bringing people together to share common experiences, stimulating our imaginations, and fostering a rich and varied quality of life. In Elk Rapids, we are fortunate to have a lively mix of music, theatre, dance, and visual arts.
Actively supporting the arts in Elk Rapids is Art Rapids!, a non-profit organization founded in 2006 by a group of arts-minded citizens. The group set about organizing a juried art fair on the shores of Grand Traverse Bay; the event now attracts more than 4,000 visitors each year.
The art fair has expanded to include several outreach programs including:
• Scholarships for graduating Elk Rapids seniors pursuing higher education in the arts
• Scholarships for high-school undergraduates for advanced arts instruction
• Grants to teachers, schools, area residents and groups for arts-related projects and activities
• Community arts events
• Gifts of art and concerts to the community, including the Walk of Art Sculpture Gallery

Tell us about yourself
Art Rapids! has numerous programs and committees, both seasonal and active year-round. Besides sponsoring and organizing the juried show the last Saturday each June, we have teams that select talented students for scholarships, seek and assist school programs worthy of cash grants, arrange art events, and plan gifts of art to the community. Others support these activities with publicity and press relations, advertising, a newsletter, hospitality at events, and auctions or other fund-raising activity.
